Evidence-based assessment to support retain, monitor, refurbish or replace decisions.
Our approach
Primary Logic provides OHL conductor condition assessment for UK electricity and infrastructure networks. Overhead line conductor testing combines sample examination, laboratory evidence and engineering interpretation to support maintenance, asset-management and replacement decisions.
01 /
From sample to engineering decision
Testing is undertaken using Primary Logic laboratory capability and specialist technical partners where appropriate.
Visual examination
Conductor dimensions
Torsion testing
Grease condition and loss assessment
Electrical resistance and resistivity
Mechanical testing
Tensile testing where required
Metallurgical examination
Galvanising or coating assessment
Conductor condition interpretation

Conductor resistance & resistivity testing
Electrical resistance and resistivity testing can form part of a conductor condition assessment. The test scope is agreed around the conductor material, sample condition and applicable specification.
Results are interpreted alongside mechanical and materials findings, conductor dimensions and available operating history. A single measurement does not determine remaining service life.
03 /
Utility & infrastructure networks
Assessment scopes can be developed around the applicable asset-owner, industry or rail/OLE specification.
Distribution networks
Transmission networks
Private OHL
Industrial networks
Rail and electrified transport where appropriate specifications are defined
From evidence to action
Sample. Test. Interpret. Recommend.
01
Sample
Controlled recovery and sample handling.
02

Mechanical, electrical and materials assessment.
03
Interpret
Results considered alongside conductor type, age, operating history and asset condition.
04

Useful questions
What information is useful before conductor testing?
Conductor type, sample availability, approximate age, operating history and the decision the assessment needs to support help define the scope. Sample recovery and handling should be agreed before material is removed.
Is all testing carried out in-house?
Testing is undertaken using Primary Logic laboratory capability and specialist technical partners where appropriate. The scope and delivery arrangements are agreed for the assessment.
